Enhanced Slow Sand Package Plant for Small Communities
We have enhanced the time-tested process of slow sand filtration in a multi-stage filtration package that is ideally suited for remote communities of 2,000 residents or less, while maintaining the highest treated water quality standards. Our system is proven to achieve the biological removal or inactivation of taste and odour compounds, endocrine disrupting compounds, pharmaceuticals and algal toxins and pathogens. The addition of a robust ozone pre-treatment and a carbon-capped roughing filter allows us to treat raw water of lesser quality than conventional slow sand plants. The MS Filter System can be customized to flow capacities between 20 and 2000 cubic meters per day. The fundamentals of slow sand filtration are reliable, easy to operate, and require no added chemicals, no chemical delivery, and no consumables. With no moving parts in the filter, operator time is a fraction of that with other systems and limited to daily monitoring, occasional sampling, and filter cleaning every 2-6 months. With low energy consumption and no chemical wastewater produced, the MS Filter System has the smallest carbon footprint of any water treatment technology.

MS Filter offers the pre-ozonation and roughing filtration pre-treatment processes as separate package systems that can be retrofitted into existing slow sand filtration facilities to significantly reduce organics and disinfection byproducts.
The pre-ozone biological roughing filter has been developed as a very effective pre-treatment to Ultrafiltration membranes for larger 'small systems'. The application of biologically stable water to a membrane system greatly reduces the potential for fouling.
